While a big pot of chili and a platter of loaded nachos are great for munching on in front of the tv, if you’re tailgating at a stadium, you might need something that travels a bit easier. Easy Tailgating Recipes that Travel Well
Turkey-Potato Hand Pies
Nobody wants to deal with utensils in the parking lot, making these hand pies a great addition to your tailgating menu.
Ingredients
- 2 Tablespoons Olive Oil
- 1 Onion, medium-sized and diced into bite size pieces
- Salt and Pepper, to taste
- 1 Small Russet Potato, diced into bite size pieces
- 1 Teaspoon Curry Powder
- ¾ Cup Frozen Peas
- ¼ Cup Golden Raisins
- 1 Tablespoon Red Wine Vinegar
- 1½ Cup Shredded Roasted Turkey or Chicken
- 2 Refrigerated Pie Crusts
- 1 Large Egg
Directions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and line a baking sheet with parchment paper. Heat oil in a large nonstick skillet over medium heat. Add the onion, sprinkle with salt and pepper to taste, and cook for about 4 minutes or until the onions become translucent.
- Add the potato and cook covered for about 5-6 minutes, stirring occasionally until tender. Stir in the curry, cook for 1 minute, and remove from heat. Add the peas, raisins, and vinegar, and mix to combine. Fold in the shredded turkey or chicken.
- Unroll the pie crusts and cut each into 4 triangles. Divide the turkey/chicken mixture among the triangles of dough, placing it on one side. Fold the dough over the filling, press the edges with a fork to seal, and transfer to the lined baking sheet. Brush with the egg and bake until golden brown, for about 15 to 20 minutes.
Cheesy Sausage Roll Ups
Easy to make in just 5 ingredients, these savory skewers are bite-sized, meaning easy clean up and perfect for the big game.
Ingredients
- 2 (6-inch) Corn Tortillas
- Cooking Spray
- 2 Tablespoons Shredded Mexican-Blend Cheese
- 8 Cocktail Sausages
- 8 Thinly Sliced Jalapenos
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 375°.
- Wrap tortillas in slightly dampened paper towels and microwave on high for 20 seconds. Remove from microwave, coat warm tortillas on both sides with cooking spray, and cut each into 5 strips.
- Divide cheese evenly among 8 of the strips (the remaining 2 strips can be discarded or eaten as a snack). Roll 1 sausage into each strip.
- Place a thin jalapeño slice on top of the roll up and secure with a toothpick. Arrange roll-ups on a baking sheet and bake at 375° for 10 minutes or until golden.
Football Sugar Cookies
Cookies are travel-friendly and enjoyed by fans of all ages. Plus, store-bought cookie dough makes them even easier to prepare!
Ingredients
- 1 Roll of Refrigerated Sugar Cookie Dough
- ½ Cup All-Purpose Flour
- 1-lb of Store Bought Chocolate Frosting
- 1 Tube of White Decorating Gel
Directions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F. In a large bowl, break up the roll of cookie dough and knead in flour until well combined. Reshape into a log—if the dough seems too soft to cut into slices, refrigerate for 30 minutes to chill.
- Once chilled, cut the dough into approximately 32 (1/4-inch) slices. Flour your hands to prevent sticking and shape each dough slice into a football shape. Place each “football” onto an ungreased cookie sheet, placed about 2 inches apart.
- Bake for 7 to 11 minutes or until the cookies are golden brown. Cool for one minute and move from cookie sheets to cooling racks. Cool completely, for about 15 minutes.
- Spread a layer of chocolate frosting over the top of each cookie and use the white decorating gel to draw laces on each football.
Italian Sub Pinwheels

Ingredients
- 4 Ounces Cream Cheese, soften
- ½ Teaspoon Italian Seasoning
- ¼ Teaspoon Garlic Powder
- Pinch of salt and pepper
- 5 (8-inch) Flour Tortillas
- 10 Thin Slices of Provolone Cheese
- 15 Thin Slices of Salami
- 10 Deli-Style Slices of Pepperoni
- 10 Thin Slices of Ham
- ½ Cup Sliced Roasted Red Peppers, patted dry
- ½ Cup Mild Banana Pepper Rings, patted dry
Directions
- Mix cream cheese, Italian seasoning, and garlic powder in a small bowl until combined.
- Season with salt and pepper, to taste.
- Spread a thin layer of the cream cheese mixture onto each flour tortilla.
- Top with 2 slices of provolone, 3 slices of salami, 2 slices of pepperoni, and 2 slices of ham.
- Top the ham with some sliced roasted red peppers and banana peppers.
- Tightly roll up the topped-tortillas and wrap in plastic wrap, securing the ends.
- Repeat until all tortillas are rolled up.
- Place in the refrigerator for at least 4 hours to chill.
- When ready to serve, remove the plastic wrap, cut off ends, and cut into about 1-inch slices.
