Many of us don’t realize it, but water is actually a nutrient that every organ system in our body depends on! Staying hydrated during the summer months can be tricky if you factor in daily perspiration from heat and excessive sweating from exercise.
Don’t wait until you are thirsty to drink, maintain adequate fluid intake throughout the day.
- How much water do I need? Aim for half your body weight in ounces plus an additional 8 ounces for each hour of exercise.
- Drink a glass of water with each meal and in between meals.
- Substitute sparkling water or sugar-free flavored waters for alcoholic drinks at social gathering.
